About Pier Alarms  
  Pier Alarms was started way back in 1985 as a sole trader business by Mr Peter Jackson after his redundancy from the Ministry Of Defence in Euxton Nr Chorley. Peter completed a 4 year apprenticeship in Electrical & Electronic engineering with some mechanical engineering on manual and digital lathes, digital milling machines, during this time producing items like vices, bearing presses to name a few. Peter completed a further 2 years service after his apprenticeship. During this time Peter completed various extra training courses i.e. First Aid at work and a leadership course incorporating an outward bound course in Poole Dorset. Due to then Government cuts in Defence spending Peter was made redundant after a total of 6 years with the Ministry Of Defence. Peter has fond memories of the R.O.F Chorley and wishes to thank the people and staff for his time & training there. Not wasting any time Peter took a job with a local firm who installed & maintained Fire Alarms, Intruder Alarms, CCTV and Access control systems. Peter was advised by the owner of this firm that really he was over qualified for this position. Due to this firm relying on winning annual tenders and losing a major tender on price in Liverpool, Peter was to be made redundant again due to the last in first out rule. At this point having been made redundant twice within 13 months Peter decided enough was enough. Peter decided to start his own Security Electronics firm, initially called Python alarms. This lasted about three months, but people did not like the picture of a Python on the bell box. The business was re named to a more traditional Wigan name of Pier Alarms. It was officially started as a sole trading business in 1985. Ten year later in September of 1995 the business changed to Pier Alarms Ltd as the company grew larger. To this day Peter Jackson remains A Director & Risk Assessment Surveyor at Pier Alarms Ltd and does most quotations. Initially in 1985 Pier Alarms worked from a small office and work shop at the back of a house in Wigan. Pier Alarms then grew employing engineer's and training apprentices to the point where business premises were required. A decision was made to rent the lower floor of 134A Wigan lane for business premises. Several year later the existing landlord sold the whole premises to Mr Jackson from Pier Alarms Ltd. Over the years The Pier Alarms Ltd premises have been modernised. We have a small showroom to display our security products, offices to the rear, a stationary / photocopy room two kitchens and two bathrooms, a conference room and a garage. We have 3 / 4 off road secure parking places behind a roller shutter. Pier Alarms have several vans on the road serving our customers needs both for installations of new systems and servicing of existing ones. Pier Alarms now has over 7500 customers around the Northwest. The company now employees 9 members of staff. On October 1st 2009 Pier Alarms Ltd achieved NSI Gold Accreditation. To achieve this we were required to produce a Quality manual of our procedures both office, installation & Servicing. many other things like security screening with 10 year history and Police checks on all employees had to be carried out. It took 6 months to produce and implement this Quality manual. The Quality side was produced by an outside company called headed by Jill Dibble. many thanks Jill. At Pier Alarms Ltd most of the hard work on this manual was completed by our own Victoria Campion, Many thanks Vicky. Once this manual had been procured we were audited by one of the inspectors from the NSI to thoroughly check our compliance. The next step to NSI Gold was to prove our competence in the installation and maintenance of Intruder Alarms, Access Control and C.C.T.V to the relevant standards. Overall three full day inspection visits were carried out. On October 1st 2009 Pier Alarms Ltd were awarded with NSI & ISO 9001:2008 Quality Assurance award. Thank you for all who helped us.

Please note for installed alarms our Surveyor has to visit your premises to carry out a Security Risk Assessment and then sends you via email or post a completed risk assessment and quotation. D.I.Y Closed Circuit Television Packages  
  Part of our shop now displays a D.I.Y / C.C.T.V demonstration. We have :- (1) Discrete single bullet camera's in blister pack on working demo.

(2) Profesional installed systems that use a Digital Video recorder ( DVR ) that can can take between 4 & 32 mono or colour camera's with the facility for remote monitoring via the internet. Note a Static I.P address is required to do this. Most DVR'S have a built in DVD writer or USB port for the purpose of backing up any events required. In many cases it is a requirement to registar CCTV with the data protection registar to comply with the law.
